About Michael & Kathryn
In the 1950s, Michael was gifted an old "Flex" camera that displayed images upside down in the viewfinder. He experimented with photography, but viewing inverted images was difficult so he moved on to baseball, fishing and other summer activities. Kathryn also pursued photography in her teen years (1960s) with a point & shoot "Brownie" camera, but unlike Michael, she continued capturing images when presented with those "Kodak Moments".
In 1965 while stationed in Okinawa, Michael purchased a highly manual Japanese camera and a hand-held light meter. Almost instantly he discovered that he knew nothing about how to take a simple photo. After rolls and rolls of disappointing images, Michael purchased an Asahi Pentax SLR camera with in-camera metering, several lenses and a bellows unit ... suddenly the photographic fun began!
Over the years, both Michael & Kathryn benefited from advancing camera technology, education, computer software and experience that allowed them to develop their love of Photographic Art with spectacular results. A good camera is an essential tool, but it is the artistic eye and imagination of the photographer that creates images that establish presence & evoke feelings.
